Michael with the Santhi Yoga retreat group · Tiruvannamalai, India
A lifetime of seeking. Twenty-six years of living it.
Michael Highburger has lived and meditated full-time at a traditional ashram in Tiruvannamalai, South India. The town sits at the foot of the holy mountain Arunachala - the same place Govind calls his spiritual home. Michael has been there for over 26 years.
His path has moved through philosophy and anthropology, seven years of Buddhist meditation practice, and a period as a junior monk in the Benedictine hermit tradition - before finding its home at Arunachala.
He is the editor of Saranagati, the monthly ashram newsletter, and is deeply engaged in interfaith dialogue between Hindu, Buddhist, and Christian traditions.
Michael has been a prominent guest teacher on our retreats in India, where his presence and teachings have been a deeply valued part of the experience for participants.
An intimate circle. A rare opportunity.
Michael is visiting Copenhagen directly from Tiruvannamalai. This small, personal gathering is a chance to step out of the daily rush and touch something quieter - together.
May 31 is a full moon - an auspicious and naturally powerful time for meditation and inner work in the yogic and Vedic traditions. The timing of this gathering is not coincidental.
He is also a close personal friend of Govind - a friendship rooted in a shared connection to Tiruvannamalai and its profound spiritual landscape.
Silent Meditation
A grounded opening in simple awareness. Settling the mind before anything else.
Insights from 26 Years of Ashram Life
Michael shares practical wisdom from living and serving at Ramana Maharshi's ashram - not theory, but lived understanding.
Open Dialogue and Self-Inquiry
A dedicated space for your questions - about practice, silence, letting go, or anything else that feels alive for you. Difficulties, struggles, existential questions - nothing is out of place here.

Govind has been taking people to Tiruvannamalai for nineteen years. Michael has been living there for twenty-six. Between them, they hold something rare.
