A talk exploring the knowledge, art, and science woven into the design of sacred spaces. Architecture shaped by astrology. Sculptures that carry philosophical meaning. Music and ceremony that have been alive for thousands of years. These are not just religious practices – they are expressions of a culture that has thought deeply about human life, emotion, and the cosmos.

After the talk we visit the temple together – to see firsthand the traditions and artistry we discussed, and to experience a space that carries centuries of cultural depth.

Timing:

• 16:30 to 17:30: Talk at santhi yoga. Kalundborgvej 18.
• ​17:30: A little Indian snacks and tea.
• ​18:30: Meet at Teglvænget 93., Sri Sithi Vinayagar Temple (Participants responsible for their transportation).
• ​18:30 to 20:15: Temple visit and feeling the vibe.
  ​Please note: Participants are responsible for bringing their own dinner if needed.

Temples are diverse centers that represent various aspects of philosophy, culture, and science. Beyond practicing temple ceremonies, they promote cultural interactions, creative expression, and learning, making them an important part of a culture.

Architecture, Astrology & Sculptures

Temple architecture is a beautiful mix of art, design and spirituality to create a peaceful and sacred space where people can connect with their spirituality.

The position of the temple and the way it’s built are influenced by astrology or stars and planetary position to align the temple with the stars to create a connection with the cosmic energy. This helps in making the temple a more harmonious and spiritually powerful place.

Temples are decorated with sculptures and pictures, which is called iconography. The sculptures and images are like a mirror reflecting human emotions through the lens of divinity. The stories depicted often involve gods and goddesses experiencing various emotions like love, compassion, anger, and bravery. These divine tales serve as a guide, showing how humans can navigate their own emotions. The statues also represent qualities that people admire and strive for, such as courage, wisdom, and kindness. When you see these sculptures in a temple, it’s not just about the gods; it’s about recognizing those divine qualities within ourselves. 

Temple ceremonies, music & Dance

Temples serve as places of worshipping the divine, hosting ceremonies conducted by priests. These ceremonies involve chanting mantras, prayers, and spiritual practices. Temples host and promote classical arts, classical music and dance forms like Bharatanatyam.
